The Boutros Boutros-Ghali Foundation for Peace and Knowledge and the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University signed a protocol today, Sunday, to establish a research chair named after Amr Moussa, former Secretary-General of the Arab League and former Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs. The chair will be dedicated to foreign policy and international relations, contributing to the advancement of scientific research in Egypt.

The cooperation protocol was signed by Mamdouh Abbas, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Boutros Boutros-Ghali Foundation, and Dr. Hanan Mohamed Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, in honor of Amr Moussa and his career in foreign policy and international relations.

In his speech, Amr Moussa said that this event represents a historic occasion for him, emphasizing that although he is not a member of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, he is a fan of it. He thanked the faculty and the Boutros Boutros-Ghali Foundation for the initiative to establish a research chair bearing his name.

He praised the Faculty of Economics and Political Science for providing Egypt with generations of scholars who have worked in economics, politics, diplomacy, statistics, and even in various fields, including research centers and journalism. They illuminate our path with their readings, analyses, and the presentation of their opinions to public opinion. He called on the Faculty of Economics and Political Science to conduct research on new issues, not traditional ones, involving a large number of young Egyptians from the faculty's talents and competencies. This research will explore the political situation to serve the overall situation in Egypt and discuss current developments around us.

He emphasized the need to discuss how to deal with the situations in Libya, Sudan, Palestine, the Horn of Africa, and the African continent, as well as with the North and Europe, given the state of anxiety and change currently taking place in the international system.

For her part, Dr. Hanan Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, emphasized that Amr Moussa is the most famous diplomat in Egypt and the Arab world. She reviewed his history and long career in foreign policy and international relations, emphasizing that this research chair bearing Amr Moussa's name will have a profound impact in advancing academic research.

She highlighted the importance of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, considered the "crown jewel of Cairo University," which has graduated ministers, ambassadors, prominent writers, thinkers, and businessmen. She extended her thanks and appreciation to Mamdouh Abbas, President of the Boutros-Ghali Foundation for Peace and Knowledge, a faculty member, for inaugurating this research chair, as well as previously inaugurating a research chair named after Dr. Boutros-Ghali and Dr. Abdelmalek Odeh.

In his speech, Mamdouh Abbas explained that the signing of the protocol establishing a university research chair in the field of foreign policy and international relations, named after Minister Amr Moussa, at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University, aims to encourage research and study in these fields, raise awareness of Egypt's foreign interests and how to defend them, and introduce the latest concepts and developments in international relations.

He added that this chair is the third to be established between the Boutros-Ghali Foundation for Peace and Knowledge and the Faculty of Economics and Political Science. The field of this new research chair is one of the areas of interest to us and that we work on at the Boutros-Ghali Foundation. This interest is consistent with the work of Dr. Boutros Boutros-Ghali, the veteran diplomat.

He continued, "Amr Moussa's name comes to the forefront when discussing foreign relations," noting that Moussa's long and well-known history of serving Egypt and Arab causes, as well as his experience in international relations, make him worthy of having this research chair named after him.
